How comment to DM works
When someone comments on your post or reel, Instagram notifies InstaAuto through the official API. InstaAuto checks the comment against your rules. If it matches a keyword, it sends a private reply: a DM linked to that comment. Instagram allows one private reply per comment, within 7 days of the comment, so this is fully within Meta's rules. If the person replies to that DM, a normal conversation opens and you can keep chatting within the 24-hour messaging window.
Why it works so well: commenting is effortless for viewers, every comment signals engagement to the algorithm, and the DM arrives in a private inbox where click-through rates are far higher than a "link in bio".
Target one post, a type, or everything
Each rule in InstaAuto has a post target:
- One specific post or reel, picked from your recent media. Best for campaign reels: the keyword PDF on your "5 budget recipes" reel sends the recipe PDF, and nothing else triggers it.
- A media type: only Reels or only Feed posts.
- All posts: good for evergreen keywords like PRICE or SHOP that should work everywhere.
Per-post targeting lets you run several offers at once without keywords clashing, and avoids accidental DMs on unrelated comments.

Public comment reply
Optionally, InstaAuto also replies publicly under the comment, like "Sent! Check your DMs 📩". Keep it short and vary it slightly between rules so it doesn't look robotic.
